Master's Degrees

At Finnish institutions, you can choose from a large selection of Master’s degree programmes in English. The majority of these programmes are provided by the universities, but universities of applied sciences (UAS) also offer Master’s degree programmes in English.

University Master's degrees

An academic university Master’s degree takes 2 years of full-time studying.

The degree consists of a major subject, minor subjects, general studies, language and communication studies, and a Master’s thesis. You need to have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the same or related field of education, and you will also need to prove your English language ability.

UAS Master's degrees

UAS Master's degrees are professionally oriented, they take 1-1.5 years to accomplish, and amount to 60–90 ECTS credits. One ECTS credit equals 25-30 hours of work/studies. During the academic year, you as a student are usually expected to complete 60 ECTS. To be eligible to apply for UAS Master's programmes, you need to hold a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, followed by at least 3 years of work experience.

Studying includes advanced specialist studies, free-choice studies, and a Master’s thesis.

Where to find information on the available Master's programmes?

You can either search for programmes by using the Study programmes database (choose level 'Master' in the 'by level' menu) - or you can of course also consult the home pages of the individual institutions to find out what they offer for international students. Also, you can use the search function on the Studyinfo.fi joint application site.

Remember that you need to contact with the Admissions Office of the university/UAS offering the programme if you need more detailed information on the entry requirements, course contents etc.
